Expansion Over Fear: Finding Possibility in Uncertain Times

I took this photograph on my morning walk. A beautiful reminder to look beyond what's directly in front of us and see the possibilities.

I got word this week that my longtime video production client has decided not to renew our monthly retainer.

It's something I've expected for a while, but nonetheless, when I received the news, my immediate reaction was fear.

That income has been a fundamental part of our personal finances, and suddenly I found myself going into panic mode. What happens next? How am I going to make up for that lost revenue? Should I look for another job? Take on more production work? Do whatever it takes to fill that financial gap?

It's scary.

But then I began to recognize where my mind was taking me. I was falling into small thinking. Thinking that the way things are right now is the way they're always going to be. Thinking from a place of fear rather than possibility.

So I sat with it. I meditated.

And one word kept coming to me.

Expansion.

Expansion over fear. Finding Possibility in Uncertain Times.

I began thinking about all the ways I could expand my offerings through Rejuvecise. It's something I'm always thinking about, but this time I started looking at it differently. Instead of focusing on what I was losing, I began recognizing the many talents, experiences, and opportunities I already have.

What if, instead of trying to replace that income by going backward, I could create something even more meaningful by moving forward?

I started imagining new opportunities, new connections, and new ways for revenue to flow through the work I love doing.

And something interesting happened.

I began to feel lighter. Less frightened. Even energized.

Now, that's not to say losing a reliable source of income isn't scary. It is! And thinking expansively doesn't magically make the financial reality disappear.

But it does open the mind to possibilities we can't see when we're consumed by fear.

The truth is, my video production work was something of a cushion left over from my many years as a producer. It provided financial stability, but it wasn't really part of the work and service I'm passionate about providing today.

And here's something else I realized.

Change isn't new to me. I've embraced it many times throughout my life. I love trying new things, taking risks, and exploring new opportunities.

The only difference this time?

I didn't choose the change.

It wasn't in my control.

And maybe that's what made it so frightening.

Has that ever happened to you? Something suddenly drops out of your life. Something steady. Something familiar. Something that helped you feel safe.

How did you respond?

When we react from a place of fear, our minds can become hijacked by all the what-ifs. We imagine the worst, and sometimes we become so overwhelmed that we do nothing at all.

Fear can be paralyzing.

But when we allow ourselves to pause, breathe, and respond rather than react, it's amazing how creative we can become.

We begin to see possibilities instead of limitations. Opportunities instead of obstacles.

And perhaps that's where real stability comes from. Not from knowing that everything around us will remain the same, but from trusting our ability to navigate whatever changes come our way.

I don't know exactly what the next chapter holds. I don't know which doors will open or where they'll lead.

But I do know that I'm feeling energized, curious, and ready to explore what's possible.

I'm choosing expansion over fear.

And as the Natasha Bedingfield song "Unwritten" reminds us, the rest is still unwritten.

What can you do to choose expansive thinking over fear and find possibility in uncertain Times?
